How does oxygen enter a cell during cellular respiration?

Oxygen diffuses across the cell (plasma) membrane down its concentration gradient into the cytoplasm, where it continues to the mitochondria. There, it diffuses across the outer and inner mitochondrial membranes into the matrix, where it is used as the final electron acceptor in the electron transport chain.
