What Study Grounded is
Study Grounded is a study assistant grounded in material you upload or that an organization assigns to you. It can answer questions with citations, build study guides, quizzes and flashcards, transcribe lecture recordings, run spaced-repetition review, and offer an in-app study assistant called Pip. Answers come from approved study material, not the open web.
Eligibility and your account
You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. Learners under 18 should use Study Grounded with a parent or guardian's consent. Provide accurate information and tell us if your account is compromised.
Acceptable use
- Only upload or distribute material you own or are licensed to use and index.
- Do not bypass rate limits, quotas, payment checks, role controls, or grounding.
- Do not scrape private routes, resell AI compute, or use the service unlawfully.
- Respect shared libraries, cohorts, and organization workspaces.
- Follow your school or institution's academic-integrity policy.
Your content and sharing
You keep ownership of what you upload. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, extract text, create embeddings, and send relevant passages to AI processors solely to provide the features you use. You are responsible for content shared by class code, share link, organization workspace, or cohort assignment.
AI output is not professional advice
AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Study Grounded is an educational tool and is not a substitute for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
- Study Grounded offers Free and paid tiers with limits shown in the app.
- Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled and may be processed by Stripe or PayFast. Card details are handled by the provider, not by us.
- You can cancel from your account; paid access remains active until the paid period ends.
- We may change prices or limits with reasonable notice in the app.
- Fees are non-refundable except where applicable law gives you a non-waivable right.
Quotas and fair use
We cap queries, uploads, monthly tokens, API usage, ingestion, OCR, quizzes, and other expensive operations to keep the service affordable. Abusive use may result in rate limits, suspension, revocation, or denial.
Automated access
Public crawling is allowed for public pages and machine-readable agent metadata listed in robots.txt. Automated clients may not access private app routes, tokenized share or join links, upload routes, OCR, ingestion, quizzes, summaries, guides, AI answers, or organization data unless explicitly authorized.
Do not bypass firewall rules, Bot Protection, rate limits, authentication, payment checks, API-key controls, or HTTP 402/x402 payment requirements. We may challenge, rate-limit, deny, suspend, or revoke abusive automation.
Paid machine/API usage
Bot, agent, and API access may be billed separately from human student subscriptions. Paid machine clients are responsible for securing API keys and payment credentials. Payment or an API key never grants access to a user's private library unless that user explicitly authenticates and authorizes access.
Organizations and institutions
Organization workspaces are separate from personal libraries. Owners, admins, and educators may manage members, cohorts/groups, shared materials, notes, quizzes, assignments, branding, and organization-scoped progress according to role.
Organization owners are responsible for inviting the correct members, assigning roles and cohorts correctly, using materials they have rights to distribute, and complying with privacy, school, employer, and learner obligations.
Availability and changes to the service
The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may add, change, or remove features, and third-party providers may affect availability.
Termination
You can sign out or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts, organization access, API keys, or automated access that violate these terms or lawful requests.
Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Study Grounded is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or loss arising from reliance on AI output, service interruptions, or third-party providers. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without affecting mandatory consumer protections in your place of residence.
